Challenge Overview
Entering the third annual national Porsche Classic Restoration Challenge, this is Porsche Wilmington's first time participating and we are really looking forward to the journey.Â
Upon entering the Restoration category, the competition involves not only restoring our vehicle to being road-worthy, but also bringing it back to a like new condition suitable for the showroom floor. The competition runs from November, 5th 2022, to August 10th 2023.Â
Porsche Defines 'Classic' Porsches as any model that has been out of production for 10+ years.Â
Why We Chose The 996
The 996 appealed to us because it marks a new era in Porsche history. The 996 saw the acquisition of a water-cooled motor being the first official Porsche to have one, and saw track technology integrated into road-going vehicles by being the first ever Porsche 911 to sport the GT3 badge. We hope you enjoy following the restoration process.Â
Vehicle History & Acquisition
This 996 has had 3 owners, starting its life in Missouri where it was owned for 4 years. It was then sent to Michigan and owned for 13 years, both owners putting minimal mileage on the car during their ownerships. Finally, it was acquired by Baker Motor Company and sold in Charleston, SC where it was owned for another 6 years. Unfortunately, the car was not given the best care in the hands of the last owner, where it sat for most of those 6 years and was serviced very minimally, according to records. The 996 comes full circle back to us in 2022.Â
